How to Attack Finals Week

Last week of classes! I cannot believe we are already a week away from May. This has been the fastest year of my life. This upcoming week is my final week of classes before finals week. My work load hasn’t been crazy, but I feel like I have so much I need to fit in before I pack everything up in two weeks.

At the beginning of the semester, I did a post about how to slay second semester. I thought I would do another school related post about how to attack finals week! Everyone reacts differently to exams, projects, and closure. I’m a very sentimental person, so endings of any sort always tend to make me feel emotional and reflective of everything that has happened. Unfortunately, I am not a very big exam person. I love a good project or essay though.

Here’s how to attack finals week.

  1. Know your strengths.

As I mentioned, I love writing so essays and written work tend to come more naturally for me. However, I often find exams challenging. By knowing this information about myself and the way I learn, I can plan the way I will finish everything. Since exams are my weakness, I will begin studying earlier and for longer periods of time, putting more time and effort into my studying instead of into my essays.

  1. Plan it all out.

Yes, I am a Virgo. Yes, there may be nothing more I love than a color coated list and a schedule. For some people seeing everything written out and seeing all the tasks that need to be completed may be daunting and useless. But, by writing out every single thing I need to complete for the next two weeks and then further writing out which days I need to complete things by, I feel like these next two weeks will be way more manageable.

  1. Carve out certain study blocks.

This is a task that despite a perfect list with checkboxes, I still struggle to maintain. I tend to do most work on Sundays, but when it comes to studying I need to put more time into just spending even ten minutes 2-3x a day studying material I need to further comprehend.

  1. Do some daily self care.

In times of stress or when we are under a lot of pressure we tend to forget to stay in touch with our emotions and our sense of purpose beyond a grade. If you truly want to succeed in life you need to maintain a balance. Self care relaxes your mind, body and soul. I booked a yoga class for tomorrow morning, plan on going for a walk to the record store on Tuesday, and going thrifting on Thursday.

  1. Affirmations.

Lately, I have been loving writing down my daily affirmations. Everything from I will pass this test to I will have a good day or I won’t let negative thoughts affect my confidence. Reading and writing these statements will put that positivity into the universe for you.

I hope you all have a wonderful week whether you’re still in school, taking finals, or already on summer holiday. Remember that a number doesn’t define you. Something I tell myself everyday is that everyday I put two feet on the ground- it’s a good day. Make the most of everything that comes your way!

Xoxo,
