Are you looking for a simple yet coastal day trip? Consider traveling to beautiful Rhode Island and adventuring the town of Newport which combines coastal and preppy to provide the ideal trip for anyone! Newport has beaches, stores, a vast history, nature walks, and amazing restaurants.
Start your morning with an iced coffee and a relaxing walk around the bustling town. Newport has lots of coffee options including The Nitro Bar, Coffee Grinder, Springline Coffee, and Brack’s Cafe. The Nitro Bar is known for its watermelon lemonade and matcha lemonade. They also offer a variety of specialty coffees, teas, pastries, and breakfast options. I recommend pairing the cowboy cookie with a vanilla latte. Coffee Grinder also has an expansive coffee menu but ranges on the more expensive side as I paid $10 for a single cold brew. If you want to enjoy your coffee right by the water, Springline Coffee is for you! Brack’s Cafe is perfect for you if you are looking for more of a breakfast meal with a coffee on the side. They offer an amazing spread of breakfast sandwiches, toasts, and acai bowls.
Once you are caffeinated, take a walk around the water-front town that reminds me of Chatham. Newport offers lots of adorable boutiques, merchandise stores, and higher end fashion stores as well. There is truly something for everyone! On the higher end/known stores they have A Black Dog (LOVE. Loved before Taylor came out with a song called The Black Dog. I have been using my pink tote all summer long), Life is Good, Kiel James Patrick (the flagship store), Johnnie O (shoutout Mr.P), LuluLemon, and Sephora. In addition to these classics, they have some unique boutiques like Malibu Friday, x & o boutique, The Salty Babe, and Pink Pineapple.I am OBSESSED with the summer sweaters from Pink Pineapple, especially the classic chunky style with a pair of jeans.

Consider taking a lovely and relaxing walk along The Cliff Walk that overlooks the ocean before hitting the beach. Easton’s Beach is right next to The Cliff Walk. If you want to venture past the walk, travel to Gooseberry Beach, Bailey’s Beach, or King Park Beach.

After a lovely day on the beach and soaking up the sun (hopefully with some tanning oil and a good Elin Hilderbrand novel) head back into town for dinner! For water-front dining try The Grill (they offer seafood towers and crab avocado toast), Belle’s, or The Mooring Seafood Kitchen & Bar. Brooke and I ate at Gas Lamp Grille, which did not have water front views, but still had amazing food.
If you have the ability, I truly recommend you take the day trip to Newport, Rhode Island! It is the closest thing to the Cape without crossing the Bourne Bridge.
