As we enter finals season, anxiety tends to be high and we tend to neglect self care. I know right now that my head hurts with thoughts of papers, exams, and projects. When I start feeling busy with school work, I often read less for fun. I decided to compile a small list of self care books to read during your study breaks in order to continue focusing on yourself and your self care! You can also save this list for your self care summer! I know the theme of my summer this year is going to be self care and a mental reset from the stress of school! (Even though I will be doing some remote classes…)
This has been on my TBR(to be read) list for so so long! My mom surprised me and ordered it to my apartment this spring and I am still waiting to finish my current self care book before I begin this one. Many college classes actually require students to read this novel which I feel speaks volumes about its importance. This book is all about making small changes in your life in order to make larger changes in your life!
Unwinding Anxiety by Judson Brewer
This was another gift from my mom. As someone who has had severe anxiety my whole life, I always find it so intriguing to learn more about anxiety and how it affects the brain and other people’s experiences with anxiety because we are all so different. For example, I can get so wound up and anxious (sometimes to the point where I feel like I am going to pass out) when I am in tall grass infested with ticks, someone around me has the stomach bug, or I think that I won’t end a course with an A. Other people with anxiety might not be able to understand these fears or this paranoia, but may experience the same symptoms when it comes to something I don’t think twice about like flying or public speaking. This book also has an app that helps you learn solutions and coping strategies when you are anxious!
101 Essays That Will Change the Way you Think by Brianna Weist
101 Essays is my current self care read in between my other reads. I found this book in a little library on the beach. This book is a compilation of little passages that help you change your mindset and help reinforce your positive mindset.
You are a Badass by Jen Sincero
I read this book a while ago and loved it! I think it was early on in high school when I read it and I would love to read it again with a new mindset and with new experiences. This book helps readers unlock their highest potential by eliminating their self doubt.
The Art of Letting Go by Nick Trenton
The Art of Letting Go is another self care book that is high on my TBR. This is another book that helps you reframe your anxious mindset and learn to forgive yourself and others.
There is a whole library worth of self care and personal growth books out there right now and I haven’t even scratched the surface of ones that I believe everyone should read in their lifetime! During very high stress times and also during less busy times when you have more time to focus on yourself and developing your personal growth are great times to crack open a self care book and do a self inventory. I know after every completed semester, I like to reflect on what went well and what I can improve upon moving forward.
Xoxo,
Hannahlane
